Plastic pollution is an unwelcome but

all-too common sight across beaches,

parks and public spaces. It’s choking

marine wildlife, destroying ecosystems

and speeding up climate change. Every

bottle, earbud, straw and bag impacts

the ocean – and our life on planet

Earth too.

Luckily, the. Chimps have taken it upon themselves to tackle the single-use

plastic crisis by joining the power-

waking, change-making, pupil-led

Plastic Free Schools programme.

The programme teaches young people

the value of their voice in the fight

against single-use plastic.

By giving pupils the tools and confidence

to challenge, question and act, we’re

creating tomorrow’s force of fired-up

campaigners who know they can make

a difference. The goal? To eliminate

single-use plastic from our environment

for good.

Our pupils have now begun their journey

in helping our school to become an

accredited Plastic Free School, how cool

is that? So let’s dive in, and find out what

they’ve been up to.

We have discussedv

The dangers to wildlife and marine life and completed regular litter picking walks.

We have eliminated most single use plastics in our setting using reusable straws, wipes, nappies (option open to parents if they wish), and much more... (most listed in our sustainability page on the website).

We have learnt about different types of materials and how some can be recycled and into what.

We have told members of the public not to litter and we have spoken and joined the local council litter picker helping him work. We have visited the beach for litter picking events.

We have designed artwork using plastics from around the setting and colouring pictures and shared these with other children, the local mp and our families.

Most importantly we have learnt in our early years that plastic is harmful and littering is even worse and that we must as humans be kind to the planet and it's inhabitants and stop the animals being at risk by making sure litter goes in the bin and we use less plastic
